Young Swedes — the next generation of innovators

by: Emma Randecker
The Swedish organization Snilleblixtarna (“Flashes of Genius”) puts the fun back into science and technology. School children are encouraged to be creative and realize their dreams. The result is thousands of amazing inventions — just look at the ones shown here!

On May 14 more than 1,500 “snilleblixtar” from all over Sweden gathered at a big fair in Göteborg to exhibit their smart inventions. Below are six contributions from previous years, drawn up by illustrator Sanna Rosén. On the right you’ll find a few of this year’s brilliant ideas. Spot any future Nobel Prize winners?

I think that they should have let the children drawn their own picture.
The illustrator is embarrassing - my 6 years old son can do it better.

Something must happen to these young bright imaginative minds during their teenage years. I have lived in Skane for 2.5 years now and my experience working with adult Swedes in academia (medical research) is that the majority are intellectual parasites, starved of both research money and ideas, and are quite happy to steal ideas from other colleagues (usually non-swedish)!

These invention shows that the children are very sensitive and the most prominent thing is they want to facilitate the weak and old people. They have a very creative thoughts and the major concern is to help out peoples and have a loving and peaceful environment.

It is really great to realize that children are so innovative and open-minded. They have so much useful and so fresh ideas! I was very pleased to find out that the younger generation supports the older. Well done!

It is very cleverly and simply done. It tells also something about personal care and social values these kids have and probably enjoy. I hope one day we could all be little more like kids, and not lose it to much while growing up. Maybe then life will have more sense. ...
