Language for all

Sweden has a new Language Act since July 1, 2009. It confirms Swedish as the main language in Sweden. There were previously no provisions in Swedish legislation that governed the status of the Swedish language. The new law also promotes and protects Sweden’s five national minority languages: Finnish, all Sami dialects, Torne Valley Finnish (Meänkieli), Romani and Yiddish.
