Swedish cinema

Current Swedish cinema is local yet international, shunning neither large nor small. The films present both the ordinary and the extravagant and range in scope from epic megamovies to cell phone creations on microbudgets. Bergman often turns up in discussions about Swedish film, but the directors who have just embarked on their careers try out fresh approaches and explore new genres to create a stir of their own.

First Annual Web Film Festival

Sweden.se and Uppsala International Short Film Festival proudly present a selection of streamed short films. Sweden produces a lot of short films today. For years now, Swedish short films have been screened at major film festivals around the world, regularly winning top prizes.

People depicted

People Depicted (Folk i bild) is a documentary suite that provide a telling snapshot of Sweden today. Involving both newcomers and leading Swedish filmmakers, the project demonstrates that the recipe for a successful documentary is characters with their own story to tell. You can watch a selection of the films in full here, but we add them one at a time so be sure to check back for more.

Swedish Film

Swedish cinema is known for its intensely personal meditations on the human condition, but the question has always been how to take art house mainstream. Now a new generation of directors is making its mark, from feature-length productions to documentaries and animation.
