I really do like some Swedish electronic music. I've fallen in love with Fever Ray and The Knife. But also love Familjen and Slagsmålklubben. Hoppas att jag kan komma till Sverige nästa år. Jag tycker Stockholm skall vara en bra stad för mig.

I love Swedish music but I'm frustrated! I'm trying to buy a CD by VÄRMLANDSPOJKARNA and no one will allow me to buy it due to market restrictions! The one CD store that will ship to the US has run out of copies. Why are these restrictions here in the first place? Sweden, please share more of your music- or at least tell iTunes to make it available worldwide.

Sweden has very fine jazz music tradition. There are so much great Swedish artists, that 500 characters won't be enough to mention all of them :) As for me I like Esbjörn Svensson Trio album "E.S.T. Plays Monk" (1996). Intelligent and refined music. Highly recommended.

You mentioned a lot of bands that aren´t known all over the world!!!

You only mention as the perfect band to Abba, you forgot Ace Of Base (the best of all) and Roxette!! and a lot of artists that are known too as: Da Buzz, Jessica Folcker, E-Type, Dr Alban, Europe, etc etc

Are you kidding me? BATHORY is by far the biggest band that ever existed on the face of the Earth, not just from Sweden. Quorthon was a genius, his music managed to establish at least 2 major metal subgenres black metal and viking metal. I am surprised that none of you mentioned him. Many of the bands that you named previously quote Bathory as one of their major influence. Take care!

Sweden is second only to Finland (in my opinion anyway) in the quality of music it produces. The fact that a country with a population of just over 9 million people can churn out the quality of music that it does is staggering.

I got into Swedish music when I read a review of Cajsa Stina Akerstrom (who is more folksy than maybe some of the groups in this review)

Does anyone know any artists like her?

Sweden is also, appropriately enough, the birth place of the Viking metal subgenre. Started with Bathory in Stockholm twenty some years ago. Amon Amarth, another Stockholm band, is the most popular.

Great site but what happened to "Folk music" - do they not deserve to be mentioned on this site!!!!!!. I am aware that there is a long tradition of folk music in Sweden so there must be a lot of material to promote here.

You should add Bonjour recordings (http://www.myspace.com/bonjourrecordings) to your label list.
They includes:
Bye Bye Bicycle - They are recording their first album "Compass" at one of swedens best producers and sounds like stone roses/smiths with discobeats.
Bonnie & Clyde - Gothenburgs lovebirds
PATS - Beautiful songs in swedish

Moreover, you should mention the famous Gothenburg Metal, whose exponents turned Sweden into a stronghold of Death Metal. I think this is important as good Metal is often associated with countries like Sweden and Finland and thus somehow contributes to my grasp of these countries.
Regards, Rumo.

Alexandra
Country:  Australia, Jun 29, 2008
What a fantastic concept! I am an original Europe and Malmsteen fan from the mid eighties. As a teenager then, there was no facebook or googling for bands. What you got were music magazines that came in from the USA months late. Now it's a different ball game. It's great to see more and more metal bands emerging once again from Scandinavia. Keep rocking and promoting the fabulous music from this amazing region of the world!!
Nico The Freak
Country:  France, Jun 28, 2008
How come you forgot to mention, in the metal section, the great band Freak Kitchen and his helluva guitarist/singer Mattias IA Eklundh ? Please do something to correct this unforgivable omission !!!
A fan of Mattias IA Eklundh, Christer Örtefors and Björn Fryklund.
PS : A word about the amazing Kee Marcello (Europe, Easy Action, K2) would be cool too !! Don't forget there's a town on the other side of Sweden called Göteborg. It's full of great musicians !!!
