I just love sweden. But i think its a bit sad that we let so many immigrants in. its not that i dont like them. Its just that we have our own culture, and our culture is getting pushed aside by all these different cultures that immigrants bring here. I dont care has long has our cultural inheritance remains, but when immigrants become mad at us when we hoist our flag (The swedish flag) at our graduation, well then i think that is has gone too far.

Sweden is a good country.Every coin has a head and tail.AIways forgive the negative, look for the green nature, mountains and good people around you.Good sweden ,good people

You feel the value of shade when you dont have it,so start feeling it now and appreciate people, nature.

Thanks

Hey Eleri, we are not racists and, actually, many people in Sweden are traveling and finding foreign boyfriend and girfriend. These mixed people are not necessarily from Africa or Asia, neither refugees only. They could be from Americas, or even from Europe. You should never write such disgusting comments about other people's country. Look for a psychiatrist to help you to deal with these issues instead.

In addition, I would add that the film wasn't that great - too fast, uninspiring music, too many women (what about gorgeous Swedish men?), + too many African/Asian faces. Tourists usually don't visit Sweden to see Africans + other refugees. For that they can visit Timbuktu or Cairo.

why always this stress on being 'multicultural'? People visit Sweden to see SWEDEN, not Paris or London. If everywhere is multi-culti, what orginality + uniqueness is left? If Sweden allows unchecked immigration, in a few decades it will have a mish-mash of people + lots of problems. Be proud of what you are - SWEDES first + foremost!

im here to read wat people talking about sweden and specially swedish. i have a swedish boy friend. And i wonder about his temper very much. I even had an ex swedish boyfriend before also but i stil dont have much expreince about swedish men. My opinion about wat i saw of swedish men... kind face, polite, cute, shy, honest, good heart but alittle tight , selfish, cold alittle, and not strong opinion, slow :(. i wanna learn more and improve him better. i learned to say hi and a few other words, but from there on i can't understand anything else,it's hard to understand swedish when u go for the first time and know few words.also i noticed they were very civilised and aware of their environment but they're a bit too strict, sometimes cold and dull. their rules are a bit too much for my taste. i guess no country is perfect...

and btw, from what i heard from immigrants swedish are racists and nationalists.i noticed the second part myself in different occasions but the first, i dunno, those people said that swedish don't speak in english with immigrants even if they know it, they just ignore them. i met some swedish people and they spoke a little english so i dunno what to think, i heard this happens to foreign people usually but it didn't happen to me.

"Don't forget, the movie is a commercial. It's supposed to sell Swedeen abroad. Of course the picture are nice and gives a nice feeling. What if it showed crowed subway trains in late november or bagladies or a woman being beated by her husband? Or how injustices between rich and poor grows bigger in Sweden just as in the rest of the world? One picture; the king on a yatch outside France, next picture; homeless man doing drugs. "

Haha, nicely said Elsa

I don’t understand your standpoint at all, Bebesvin. The people portrayed in the film are very mixed in ages, origins, etc. In the intro, for example, there are several middle-aged and older people. Do you mean that young girls should be banned altogether? Du you see anything indecent in these images?

I am just trying to help, as the author asked for our opinions and so I am offering them. I love Sweden too, and as such wanted the respresentation and advertisement to tourists to be something better than what say Amsterdam would offer. Simply put: the video seems to "sell little Swedish girls" more than anything, which I am concerned about.

Also, I don’t think that this film is a documentary with the purpose of showing a "proper" image of Sweden the way BBC would. I think it’s a marketing prouct or am I mistaking? It’s funny how all international comments in this column are extremely positive and loving, while most Swedish are nagging and hostile. swedes seem to hate their own country!

In this film, I saw plenty of middle-aged people and also older women, both in the beginning, the middle and the end. I also saw images from chemical industry and transport industry. I wonder what your problem is bebesvin? That there are some younger girls in there as well?
bebesvin
Country:  USA, Jan 25, 2009
Okay, so I finished watching the video (I was upset at the first 2 min's at the pimping out of Sweden's girls that I couldn't watch the other half) and finally finally at the end I saw like one or two happy older women, and an aging man. Also, there was some images that touched upon the biotech and IT industries. but why at the END, and why very few, very non-lasting images? The editing was horrible. If the video was for a Gucci ad, it was good, for a representation of SWEDEN:ETHNOCENTRIC
bebesvin
Country:  USA, Jan 25, 2009
I am an older woman so I don't think of getting laid with young women when I think of Sweden. As a Swede living abroad just now, Sweden means more for me. From MSN Encarta: In recent decades newer industries, including information technology, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals, have grown in importance. The point is.. are you selling little girls, or are you selling SWEDEN?
bebesvin
Country:  USA, Jan 25, 2009
From BBCNEWS: Of Sweden: Main exports: Machinery and transport equipment, paper products, chemicals (why was none of this accentuated in video?)
bebesvin
Country:  USA, Jan 25, 2009
It seems like the video tried to advertise two things: hot young perfect women and the lovely landscape. NOT at all represent the majority of what I consider definitive of Swedish. No happy older women, middle aged women, middle aged men. Remember you are excluding most of the population when you don't see the other people in the crowd - 99% OF THE PEOPLE IN SWEDEN ARE NOT PERFECT HOT YOUNG LITTLE GIRLS. I had to read BBCNEWS and MSN Encarta to get a better idea of the real Sweden.

The pictures are great and the country is in fact peaceful, But the people are so homogenious. They are so much alike. When they travel somewhere else they are completely different. They are strange for foreigners who live here. Boring and reserved- The people have been controlled too long by religion and than the government. You have to live here to fully understand.

Malexander? Thats a coincidence!
My family have a summerhouse there, and my entire family (mothers side) are from that area. It's funny because Malexander is a very very small village (like 200 inhabitants)!

I was searching for pictures and videos of Sweden when I found this sight. Although it is not what I was wanting I did find it interesting. I am researching my family history and my ancestors were from Östergötland and Jönköping and I was hoping to find photos and videos of those areas. My ancestors came from; Ställberga, Tenbäcken ( I guess Tränäs now) in Jönköping and Ekeby and Mälexander in Östergötland.

I have to say that this movie has both upside ande downsides. The downside is that there are to many clips, that makes it very hard to follow. The upside is that is shows alot of what sweden have to offer but then again there is a downside in absolutly no names so there is very hard to know what one might like. I can be better no question about that.

All is good. the thing that makes me wonder is that how Sweden manages and represents, and let's say feeds the whole world with soo many talented musicians?! i think that for a music lover, whatever the genre is, Sweden and actually any Scandinavian country is more than anything to dwell in. Now i'm like reading up on Sweden from every possible source!

@Katrina: The footage of medicine is probably included in the video because the world's largest pill factory lies in Södertälje, and probably also because there is a lot of biotechnology research in Sweden.

I think the video was nice overall as it shows the real Sweden, even if it skips some (huge) parts of our culture...

Nice and relaxing movie! But, I'm not sure is sky so much "open" in Sweden? I've heard that Swedes hate their weather... Nothing very wrong with the movie but it could have shown more typically Swedish traditional things, like the traditional food, clothes, events etc. and I have to agree with Anna L, it feels a bit like random snapshots of very random things, like a medicine factory? Why is there video footage of medicinde being made? But it shows some pretty envirements that we Swedes should be proud of. And I am proud!

2/2- Only reason I can think of, that Swedish people would say they hate their country, is because they don't know what they've got. Spend some time in a different country, you will most definitely change your mind.
Lagom is a great word. It means anyone is able to live comfortably here, if they want to. It means simplicity. Which is not easy to achieve even in NZ- unless you've got a lot of money. I hope to live here indefinitely, there's no place like it that Ive discovered- yet

1/2 - Ive visited many countries & lived in USA, Germany, NZ & here.
This was a pleasant clip of Sweden, it felt good to watch. I know it's like this & even better in many ways. I think this was the whole purpose of such a clip right? As others have said here, every country has it's problems but I believe Sweden is the most peaceful place Ive visited, let alone lived in.

Well, as you can see by the comments, Swedes seem to hate their own country. Sadly that's the truth, but Sweden really is this great, under the surface through which nobody dares to dive. Figuratively speaking. This film has even been called "racist" by many officials here.

But, as a proud Swede, I feel very happy reading your sweet answers to the movie. :)

A beautiful film about my beautiful country. I, for one, actually found it to be representative. I've travelled all over my country and this is what it's like in many regards: harmony, equality and good people. As has been pointed out below there are ups and downs to every country, but in general Sweden is a very pleasant place to be.
Liliana
Country:  Romania, Mar 26, 2008
I was impressed by the well-developed industry presented in this clip, because it looks very technological and up-to-date. And I find it totally impossible to create a video about a country and include no stereotypes. It's practically inevitable, but it isn't neccessary a bad thing, because in order to present any new thing to people who have few notions about it, you must start with something they already know: stereotypes. Anyway, it's a good video. Keep up the good work! :)
Liliana
Country:  Romania, Mar 26, 2008
The video is what a touristic presentation of any country should be like. You can't expect to feel the real touch of Sweden, it's only meant to give people an idea about the main things that represent it as a country, the things that make it stand out and be unique.

I have a friend who's from Sweden and she says that the winters are long and dark and there is a high suicide rate, but what are you going to do? You can't control the weather or people. Most Swedes are cold, and boring, impolite and rude. It is obvious that parents do not parent, as kids rule,.the women act bogus with no etiquette whatsoever. the schools are out of control, no proper rules, . Sure there are other good things, the ugly houses are overpriced, and most people have to live in small doll houses, Swedes need to learn etiquette and decorum, and schools need to enforce rules..no makeup, wear uniforms, no cell phones during classes, etc.

Of course this small clip has a commercial porpouse and can't show bad profiles of Sweden (dark and cold winter days and alcoholism for example). But believe me when I say that it is easy and beautiful to live there!
And I do prefer Gothenburg than Stockolm (too big and touristic), but this is just a personal judgement.

I think this film shows a dream fantasy of Sweden. I think part of it is true but it shuts alot out.

I am ashamed that Swedish integration for imigrants has been so bad and I see many Swedes around me that do not have the "great mentality" of "everyone is one of us". There is much rasism and prejudice in Sweden.

I swear I'll live there one day.
As soon as I can go for a gap year, see what it's like, and study there.
It just seems that this country has everything this country will have in a million years, plus what we've already got.
Policies on environmental change are so far ahead of us too. Plus, policies on war are so much better. This country isn't a lapdog for America.
I'll be there. Just wait. Please.

I moved away 17 years ago, and the longer I'm away, the more certain I am that I will one day return to live there... As it is, I fly back twice a year, and each time I leave it becomes more and more difficult. I LOVE Sweden for it's beauty, it's people, it's culture, history and architecture... What makes Swedes beautiful, apart from the freckles and blonde hair, is the way they think. The mentality is one of "us" rather than "me" (as it is here in the USA)... Jag älskar mid land!

It’s a greatly impressive and captivating picture — far, far more modern, soulful and dynamic that anything I’ve seen from any other country. The thought that something like this could be produced in the UK, for example, is impossible. Hats off for Sweden!

This film is extremely artistic and combines images of people, nature and societal progress in a very daring and new way. Reading the comments after seeing the clip suggest that a condensed "vision" of Sweden is impractical and potentially quite controversial. Having been to Sweden to visit Stockholm and Soderhamn (my grandfather's birthplace), I experienced a broad range of encounters, most of which were quite friendly, though "different". My favorite memories of Sweden include forests, children going to school, and the train ride north from Stockholm to Soderhamn.

I must say I didn't like the video that much. Why do we show all the blond girls over and over again? And the nature pictures wasn't the most beautiful I've seen. The kissing between the two women were great though, Sweden is a quite accepting country (now there will of course be someone who says that we are not but I still think so compared to other countries). That's something we should be proud of!
Hope to see you here soon! ;)

Dear Agnes,

II would have loved to show you some beautiful roses. Actually, we had som nice footage of some that just didn’t make it in the final cut.

Thank you for all your comments, dear people! I’ve been following them with great interest. I find especially fascinating the clear difference of character between the Swedish and the international remarks. I’ve written something about this strange phenomenon in my blog.

All best,

For me who needs so badly to know all about Sweden to make my arrival I guess the film merely egged me on the message I see come and see for yourself make your own story form your own impression for me, the impression is made already even before I watched the film life to be sought and lived why didn't you show me the rose flower that's so special to me?

sweet pictures on a too long timeline and the makers dumped the chance to place sweden on the map.
(most people think that sweden is the capital of zürich?)
what they didn´t miss was to drop in a by-line worth x amount of advertising €$£.
we consider ourselves openminded, equal. why don´t we see a gay guy couple in the clip?
edit out the kissing chicks, and while at it, take out all people shots.
as someone said - if you take the swedes out of sweden, it´ll be a pretty nice place. :D

to Svensk 30/10 15:07: Before chastising Ingemar for his comments and , maybe you should get your facts right. Although you are right about the suicide rate, you are totally wrong about the Iraq war. Migrationsverked 18 October declared and got support for its court that "There is no armed conflict going on in Iraq (hence war)" and thus perfectly okay to send Iraqis back to unless they can prove that they are in harms way in Iraq. http://www.dn.se/DNet/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=147&a=706064&rss=1399

I mean, is pills or some weird art, or some people working in offices typical Swedish or anything that would make you want to go there. I am proud of my country and that's why I think it deserves a better movie than this one. However there were a few nice city shots, nature shots and some beautiful girls, and the music was pretty good too.
Lasse

All in all it was an OK movie, but it doesn't really shows what's so special about Sweden. I'm a Swede and I'd think there were a lot of typical Swedish things and places they didn't show.

This one's for Ingemar. The suicide rate is just a myth go google it up. When did Sweden not call the war started by USA a war? And is it bad that Iraqis can come find shelter in Sweden when there's war in Iraq? Get your facts right and your head too. Oh, and by the way, you're ashamed of being a Swede, well Sweden couldn't be more ashamed for giving such a jackass as you to the world. Good that you moved.

Sign Ingemar:

I understand that you dont live here (Sweden) anymore ?

You are wrong about the Iraqi refugees. Sweden is the country where more refugees from Iraq get a permit to stay than in any other country in the world.
I dont believe you about the suicide-level amongst young people here either.

Now more "on-topic": As a whole i like Sweden and living here. A good, free, openminded, multicultural, stable and rather international country.

One thing that i liked watching this movie is about delicate balance. Watch that dog for instance as it climes the hill in the snow. If he/she were going a little bit slower it could probably not move forward. But, at the same time the dog chooses not to go even faster either. The dog is managing well and looks happy about it.

Swedish people are just so friendly and so helpful. They really seem to be at one with themselves. The readiness to be agressive and selfish which you find so evident in some other countries is absent here. If you crave excitement then go and live in a country where you take your life in your hands if you try and use a pedestrian crossing.

I am very staisfied with being born in this country, but I just hate when foreign people say that you can't criticise Sweden. I am aware that we have a very well functioning welfare system etc., but that dosen't mean we don't have problems to discuss, just like any other country! And also, swedes travel a lot and have experienced an open-minded mentality which just dosen't exist here. It's somethong you miss when you come home after having have spent time abroad.

Greatings from Australia.

Great film.

Why do some Swedes prefer a Sweden that isn't Swedish?

People go to Sweden to see Swedish people.

Just like they go to Japan to see Japanese people.

All my friends agree that they would not go to Sweden if it was some sort of multi-ethnic boarding house.

Swedes have a long and proud history. This is what tourists want to see and feel.

Don't thow it away.

When it's lost, it's lost forever.

Cheers from DownUnder!

Dear Tom, you are a journalist. Can´t you read? I never said I didn´t like it here. I said that this movie is boring and chauvinistic. I doesn´t show the things I am so proud of in this country - the ethnical mix (not exotism as shown in this film), and the struggle for equality between men and women. Obviously this country needs us nagging people. You know Tom, it´s thanks to us this world is moving forward. Have a nice weekend!

one has to be fully aware of where such films are shown, if you are n´t aware of that, then in my mind you are missing the whole point of it. to answer a few other comments left about this extraordinary film, I dont think that if america, russia, brazil, thailand, or any other country in the world would make such a film, that they would show the horrible sides like poverty, prostitution etc, that is a whole other debate on a different level. congratulations sweden.

i would not go as far as calling myself a expert on the subject, but considering the size of this assignment i really think that the people behind this project has done an excellent job.
off-course they could have had more glass, longer shots or even shown "signature: jaded" standing at the buss stop at 7am, but they didn´t. i have hard to believe that glass, longer shots or even "slightly bitter" jaded would havemade this film better in any way.

I've lived in many different countries around the world. And when I read what some swedes have to say about their own country is sad. It shows that many of them that have written a comment have never been abroad. Otherwise they would apreciate in what a luxurious, rich, friendly and peaceful country they live in. And what some say that it is boring well may be it's time to get into action and organize something yourself instead of waiting for some one else to make your life more exciting.

No, I can't really say that I enjoyed this film. It looked more like an enhanced version of a still picture slideshow. People were captured too close without showing their environment and not enough time to contemplate on each scene. One minute of Stockholm and one second of Gothenburg as usually reflects the mind of those living in the swedish capitol, "Stockholm or nothing". Nope, I've seen better compositions made by amateurs.

And of course it won't show any of the "not so nice" sides of Sweden... It's a commercial. Yes, Sweden has it's problems, but guess what, every country have got problems!

I don't think at all that Sweden is boring or that Swedes are anti social or impolite. The majority of Swedes I meet on the streets everyday are very polite and friendly.

It's got some stunning footage and lovely-looking people in it, but it has an advertising agency flavour, i.e. quite bland. Some more good-looking men would be nice, not just girls! The film maker could have taken a few more risks, injected a bit of humour and drama in the editing. The choice of music could have been more exciting and dynamic, too. And I am very proud to be Swedish, especially after living abroad for 15 years, it really gives you perspective!

Don't forget, the movie is a commercial.

The slides sort of stop the dynamic effect you would get if you actually so people doing things and enjoying themselves. And the Midsummer thing...well, that was just a bit too cheap. Most people just get drunk then, and they are hardly dressed in traditional clothing...
