Quick facts about the royal wedding

The Royal Palace and much of central Stockholm is abuzz with preparations for the upcoming wedding of Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling on June 19, 2010. Let us give you some quick facts.
  • Consideration, commitment and sincerity are core values that the wedding couple has chosen for the wedding.
  • The royal wedding celebrations will last several days, and include a private dinner at Drottningholm Palace, a lunch at the City Hall of Stockholm and a gala performance at the Stockholm Concert Hall.

  • The wedding ceremony is at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday June 19, in Storkyrkan (Stockholm Cathedral).
  • Crown Princess Victoria will be escorted down the aisle by her father, King Carl XVI Gustav, in a decision that is considered old-fashioned and quite controversial in Sweden, where couples normally walk to the altar together.
  • Royal guests from the courts of Europe will be attending the wedding. The guest list includes the royal families of Denmark, Norway, Spain, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, among others.
  • Some 2,300 journalists have registered, 700 of whom are from abroad — mainly from Germany, Norway, Finland and the United Kingdom.
  • The royal wedding will cost about SEK 20 million (about USD 2.5 million). The Swedish king will pick up the tab for all of the events taking place at the Royal Palace, while events that are affairs of the state will be paid by the government.
  • As Crown Princess Victoria’s husband, commoner Daniel Westling will be granted the title H.R.H. Prince Daniel, Duke of Västergötland.
  • The wedding couple has selected Richard Häger and his eleven-man Cotton Club band to play at the wedding.

  • The Official Wedding Series includes a wide range of souvenirs — everything from chocolates to china. Among the unofficial souvenirs is a dishrag with a portrait of the royal couple.
  • Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt has handed over a gift from the Swedish people: a set of 1,000 glasses designed by Erika Lagerbielke and handmade by the Orrefors glassworks. The cost? SEK 300,000 (about USD 37,000).
  • Stefano Catenacci of the posh Operakällaren restaurant is responsible for the wedding menu. About 40 cooks will be in attendance on the day. What will be served remains a closely guarded secret until the wedding day.
