The Swedish monarchy, regarded as the world’s most modern, has become even more popular in recent years. One of the reasons may be that Crown Princess Victoria has become a very popular ambassador for the country. She was married on June 19, 2010, and the wedding attracted considerable
attention both in Sweden and abroad.
Perhaps a little contradictory for such a modern nation, Sweden is also a constitutional monarchy. But although our formal head of state is King Carl XVI Gustaf, the Swedish royal family has long had only representative and ceremonial functions.
