The problem with taking a good panorama of a typical Swedish lake is that there are so many lakes, each one better than the last, until of course you pass by the best one of them all, though you might not know it at the time. So I've had to make some difficult choices, driving by some wonderful specimens on the assumption that more and better lies ahead.
At one point today, however, out of the corner of my eye as I drove by it, this one lake caught my attention — two small islands on it have miniscule houses on them — so I decided to photograph this one as insurance, as a minimum base line for this trip.
I found a nice viewpoint, began to set up the camera, only to realize I was being dive-bombed by giant marauding mosquitos. I had to race back to the car to find the bug repellent, and only just made it alive. Even with the bug repellent applied, it was a battle of wills as I waited for a sunny moment. These mosquitos were so big that they would bite first and ask questions later about why my skin tasted bad. In the end I gave up on the spot before the sky truly opened up. I guess they won. At least I am smug in the knowledge that they'll be dead soon.
Google Maps has the lake labelled as "Mandejärvi". I googled Mandejärvi, only to find it is one of those rare words not indexed by Google... until now, with this blog post, of course. Welcome to the internet, Mandejärvi.
