Occupant's rights

Whatever contract you sign, the owner is not allowed to charge a higher rent than he or she pays, with a reasonable amount added for a furnished apartment. If you happen to discover that you are being overcharged for your housing, you can always contact the Swedish Union of Tenants, or Hyresgästföreningen, for help in recovering your costs. For this reason in particular, you should always insist on signing a formal contract before moving into any apartment or house.
